Steely Dan's latest reissue campaign spans many classic albums, including their fourth LP Katy Lied, but here we focus on The Royal Scam, their fifth.
Once more produced by in-house maestro Gary Katz, and again a grand and sprawling recording project with tens of contributors and credits, the album deals thematically with the loose story of Owsley Stanley, the psychedelic drug kingpin and father of the modern soundsystem. Compared to their previous projects, The Royal Scam was known for its more paranoid and intense sound.
