Allen Toussaint’s critically acclaimed Songbook album is available for the first time on vinyl on this 2-LP 180g edition. A new 2-CD format is also available featuring the original album plus 20 unreleased bonus recordings.
Recorded at Joe’s Pub in New York City in 2009 the album brings together Toussaint, a piano and his extensive catalogue of songs. With the spotlight on his originals, it includes "Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette)", "Holy Cow", "Get Out Of My Life, Woman" and more.
Allen Toussaint was an American musician, songwriter, arranger, and record producer. He was an influential figure in New Orleans rhythm and blues from the 1950s to the end of the century, and many musicians recorded his compositions. He was a producer for hundreds of recordings: the best known are "Right Place, Wrong Time", by longtime friend Dr. John, and "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle.
