Living rurally, at this point usually in tents in Northern California, best friends and Alabama natives Nabob Shineywater & Rachael Hughes carried crystals to each Brightblack Morning Light show they played. In the summer of 2006, these shows included Vashti Bunyan, Os Mutantes, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Espers, Lavender Diamond and Feathers.

Core members of Brightblack Morning Light also included Elias Reitz and his lovely dog Lalli, whose paws usually prowled their onstage performances. A rotating family of friends also contributed to BBML, including Feathers’ Meara O’Reilly, Ben McConnell (Espers, Grass), “Magic” Andy MacLeod (White Magic, Howling Hex), and Robbie Lee, who plays flute.

Matador released their self-titled second album in 2006. It features contributions from Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, Entrance, Zwan), Anne & Gail (who back up Mavis Staples of Staple Singers) and was recorded with Thom Monahan and Mark Nevers.
