Crass were an Anarcho-punk band formed in 1977. They popularised the anarcho-punk movement, and were advocates for such matters as direct action, animal rights, anti-facism, feminism, and environmentalism. From the word go, their career's ending was set to be 1984, and they lived up to this intention, splitting up following a miners' benefit gig in Wales in July that year.

Best Before 1984 is a compilation featuring Crass' singles amongst other tracks, and was released in 1986, two years after the band's break up. The physical formats feature lyrics and booklet detailing the history of the band (In which Crass "Blow Their Own").

The compilation features such tracks as "Reality Asylum", "Sheep Farming In The Falklands" and, as a nice touch, opens with their debut single "Do They Owe Us A Living?" and closes with the last ever performance of said track.

The album was named in reference to the self applied "sell by date" that was intended, and was lived up to by the band.

2019 remastered reissue.
